PRINCE2:2009 has been launched

Media Release Date: 28 August 2009

2009 has become an important milestone in the history of project management with the release of the newly enhanced PRINCE2 project management method.

“The value of the world’s most popular project management approach has just become greater”, according to HiLogic’s Director Vincent Marsi.

For many millennia man has embarked on projects applying learnings from failures and successes to drive projects on time and within budget.

In 1996 a major milestone in professional project management was achieved.  Under the instructions of the UK Government a small group of project management professionals were given the charter to produce a project management approach for government projects.  The charter required that a single approach had to be created suitable for all government projects regardless of type or size.  Little did this team know that in just over a decade their endeavours would lead to a standard which would become widely accepted by private and government organizations across the globe.

This standard is known as PRINCE2 (Project In Controlled Environments 2nd Version).  Today more professionals hold PRINCE2 certification then any other project management certification.

PRINCE2 has successfully serviced thousands of organizations seeking a scaleable process based approach to project management. “Many organizations have invested heavily in improving the skills of their project managers but often lacked processes to support the efficient and effective execution of projects.  PRINCE2’s success is largely because it is a process based approach that illustrates when and how a project manager should apply their competencies”.

“Since its creation we never envisaged PRINCE2 would be applied to such a diverse range of projects in so many parts of the world”

“As the challenges of 2009 and beyond are vastly different to 1996 it is natural for the methodology to evolve. Today’s PRINCE2 has a better balance between theory, logic and application.  By adopting more commonly used terminology and practices people of different backgrounds will be able to better understand how to apply the method.  Enhancements to processes such as the benefits realization process will improve alignment of projects with corporate objectives”.

“It’s just what PRINCE2 needed to continue its rise internationally as the preferred project management certification.”
