At the core of the PRINCE2 methodology are 7 management Processes that integrate the Principles and Themes of best practice project management. Each of these management processes set out a series of activities and responsibilities that must be completed for the successful management of a project from preparation through to closure.

Starting Up a Project   Described as ‘pre-project work’. It is specifically designed to answer the question: ‘Do we have a viable and worthwhile project?
Initiating a Project   Specifically designed to create the Project Initiation Document (PID) - A 'whole of life' management document that describes, why the project is needed, what must be done, project responsibilities, when and where events must happen and how the project and its deliverables will be controlled.
Directing a Project   Describes how and when senior management get involved in a project and identifies key decision points for management. This process also provides guidance on what information management must receive to facilitate Go/No Go decisions and ensure the project's success.
Controlling a Stage   Describes the ‘day to day’ management activities of a project manager and provides processes and approaches to effectively manage issues, risks, resources and progress.
Managing a Stage Boundary   Management and review activities the must take place at the end of a stage to authorise the continuation of the project.
Managing Product Delivery   Defines the management responsibilities of the person responsible for the design, development, implementation or purchase of specialist (technical) products.
Closing a Project   Describes the management activities to formally handover and close a project.
